Question: The mystery in the movie silent hill. could someone please explain to me?

If you've watched the movie, the ending is quite sad. When Rose and her daughter, Sharon, return home, neither they can see Chris, nor him can see them. Also, when Christopher goes in a search for Rose in Silent Hill, he goes to a place in the school EXACTLY where Rose is. And through his eyes, the place isn't at all dark, while through Rose's eyes, it's completely dark. They are standing exactly at the same spot, and they can't see each other. Now my question is, what the hell is going on? How Chris is in another completely different world than his wife and his daughter, and the rest of the people in Silent Hill. Well, I do know that the remaining "residents " of Silent Hill are but ghosts of their real bodies. But how could Rose and Sharon see them? Did they die as well? And how did they die? The first thing that comes to my mind concerning the last question, is that they died when they had the accident, and they thought that they didn't. Could someone please explain to me this mystery in the movie? Thanks in advance.

They are in different "realities " ... Rose and the little girl (who was a reincarnate, remember) did not die when they went to Silent Hill - they crossed over into another dimension/ alternate reality. Have you played any of the games? or did you just watch the movie?

It's a very complicated movie. Let's go back to the beginning. See, Rose and Sharon only went to Silent Hill because Sharon came from there. She was adopted by Rose and Christopher. Sharon had a twin sister in Silent Hill (Alyssa) When Sharon kept talking about Silent Hill in her dreams, Rose decided to take her there. Although the town died a long time ago, the other dimension was still open to Sharon and Rose, merely because Sharon's twin sister died there. Now they crash in the care and when she tries to go to the edge of the town it's cut off. She is in the other dimension. Her daughter too. Now the dark side of Alyssa walks around the town. Rose keeps thinking it's her daughter. Now Rose is in the other dimension because of her adopted daughter (Sharon) and she can't exit before finishing what she came for. To go to the source of Sharon's nightmares. Now when Christopher goes looking for her, he is in the real world, and Rose is in the other. Notice how when they pass, how he kinda smells her perfume and is convinced that she was there. He caught a glimpse of the other dimension. Now Rose has to battle the power of the town to get her daughter back. Near the end of the movie, the dark ghost of Alyssa, goes into Rose. She becomes part of her. Then when Rose gets stabbed in the church, the wound closes. That is the ghost inside her giving her the power. Then in the very end when all this is over and she drives over the edge without falling off, she broke the grip that the town had on her and it can no longer keep her there. In the very end when she and Sharon gets home, Christopher can't see them because they are still in the other dimension. The dark side of Alyssa is still inside Rose and she and Sharon will still be in the other dimension forever. Very sad ending. They didn't die, they are just not in the real world anymore. It's actually a gripping movie and a shocker ending. I loved it. Hope this clarifies things. Regards
